“I was a mess when I came to Street School. I was strung out every day, doing whatever I needed to get drugs. I felt that nobody cared about me. I didn’t have anybody in my corner. I never thought I’d be where I am today – in college, married and having a good life, a normal life – one I never had before.

here is a Mentor training program where
applicant’s receive
initial training by participating in “Going To Bat For
Tulsa Kids” and continued training through Street School. There
is a background check, but is at no cost to you. You are paired
with a student by the coordinator for this program who will meet
with you to determine the best student match.
Mentors spend one hour per week for each
week that Street School is in session. Available times are
Monday through Thursday 9:00
am, 10:00 am, noon, or 1:00 pm. You serve a a mentor during the
length of the school year.
There are no costs to being a mentor. Just
your time to listen and be a positive influence on a student.
Tutoring is not expected. We have a tutoring program specifically
designed to meet the needs of students. If you are interested
in the tutoring program, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator
at 833-9812.
Mentors do not transport students, and must stay on or within
walking distance of Street School property. Mentors do not stay
in contact with their mentee when school is out, but this does
happen sometimes under certain circumstances, and under direct
supervision from the volunteer coordinator.
