“I was a mess when I came to Street School. I was strung out every day, doing whatever I needed to get drugs. I felt that nobody cared about me. I didn’t have anybody in my corner. I never thought I’d be where I am today – in college, married and having a good life, a normal life – one I never had before.

Street School's HIV/AIDS education program began in 1996 and
the "Baby, You Better Think It Over" sex education
program was started in late 1999. In both programs, students
are trained and certified as peer educators. Street School students
are taught how to speak to their peers, and make community presentations
about pregnancy prevention, and raising awareness of HIV, AIDS,
STDs, abstinence and the need for young people to practice safe
sex if they are having sex.
