ll students and their families participate
in the intake and screening process, which takes several steps
and interviews. Once enrolled, the student is assigned to a counselor
who will follow that student throughout their experience at Street
School. Prior to attending school, all students and parents/guardians
participate in a program orientation to discuss expectations,
rules, activities, and the unique qualities of Street School.
Pre-testing is conducted during the orientation to determine
each student’s strengths
and needs. An individualized education and treatment plan is developed
for each student with input from instructors, the student’s
counselor, and the student.
Students, their parent/guardian, and school counselor sign the Street
School Agreements form so that every student receives a
quality education. This agreement describes the four Guiding
Principles of the program. These principles are mutual respect,
personal accountability, direct communication, and community.
These principles help to drive our everyday activities. Following
these principles helps to ensure a peaceful safe atmosphere,
a cohesive environment, and an enriching learning experience.
Street School also has a set of Community Guidelines,
which are posted in each classroom as a way to create and maintain
a safe and threat free learning environment. These guidelines are
used in the classroom to provide students with examples to help
them become active participants who feel safe to contribute to
the Street School community. The guidelines include mutual respect,
attentive listening, trustworthiness, truthfulness, appreciation/no
put downs, right to pass, and personal best.
